Mirror in the Marsh Anhinga

$4,300.00

36” x 48”

An Anhinga perches gracefully on a branch, wings outstretched in a dramatic silhouette that commands attention. The bold geometry of a cubist background fractures the scene into abstract planes of color and form, contrasting with the organic elegance of the bird. Below, the calm water mirrors the Anhinga’s pose, adding a sense of depth, balance, and quiet reflection to the composition. This interplay of realism and abstraction invites the viewer to see nature through a multifaceted lens.

A good friend shared her special place on the island of Sanibel to watch the birds. I biked out one day on my own and encountered the Anhinga, who must sit on branches after fishing for dinner to dry his wings, because he can no longer fly until they are dry. I moved in for a shot, then closer, then closer focused only on the bird and its reflection. In analyzing the shot for painting, I see that there was another visitor (my painting easter egg) that was closely watching me. Next time I will try to view the whole scene and be safer.
